Dental care is more than just brushing your teeth every morning, although that’s a good place to start. Below are dental care tips for a more confident smile.

Drink Water

Keeping yourself well hydrated comes with a lot of health benefits including helping you fight off tooth decay by washing away food particles stuck to our teeth and by ensuring you don’t end up creating conditions conducive to tooth decay as a result of a dry mouth.

Water also washes away the acidity created in your mouth by carbonated drinks and which erodes your tooth enamel and provides favorable breeding grounds for the bacteria that causes tooth cavity and bad breath.

It is important that you pay keen attention to the water you drink. Water high in fluorides lead discoloration of the teeth and you may want to invest in a Fluoride Filter for your home if you want to keep your teeth white.

Brush Twice Daily

Whether you brush after or before your breakfast is a matter of personal preferences but you will need to brush again or rinse your mouth to avoid coffee stains after chugging down that cup of caffeine.

More importantly, you should brush twice daily. You need to rid your mouth of food particle from your dinner and you also need to go to the office with fresh breath. None of your colleagues wants to get a feel of your dragon breath.

Brush Properly

Some people brush, yes, but they don’t brush properly. Do not rush through the brushing ritual that you fail to reach some parts of your mouth. Hold your brush against your gum line at a 45-degree angle and clean your teeth in small circular motions and remember to also give your tongue and roof of your mouth some attention. You shouldn’t take less than three minutes brushing.

Your toothbrush gets worn out from repeated use and you should replace it every three months or as soon as the bristles start to wear out or after suffering from a cold or fungal infection.

Floss Over Toothpicks

Toothpicks can damage your enamel in addition to getting stuck between your teeth. Instead, use dental floss to remove food particles stuck between your teeth. In fact, you should be flossing daily as part of your dental care regardless of whether you have food particles lodged between your teeth or not.

Your toothbrush bristles can’t reach some places of your mouth and you need to floss to remove food particles that would otherwise cause dental plaque and bad breath.
