To find the truth, you have to dig too many books, go into the beginnings of Islam, the point of conflict, and the reasons why some of the historic personalities in the world engaged in wars over their faith and beliefs. We don’t want to get into those gruesome and painful details in this article.
Let’s look at what any Muslim family does on this occasion to enlighten you, the reader, what it is like to be a part of this festive day.
What is Eid Al-Fitr
Eid Al-Fitr comes at the end of Ramada, the month of fasting. Muslims congregate at a specific mosque to say the special Eid prayer. The Imam leads all the Muslims, men and women, who follow the lead. At the end of the prayer, they head home to meet their loved ones and family members at home. Before going for the prayer, women who opt to go for the prayer prepare some sweets before leaving for the prayer. This means they wake up much early to have a bath, get ready, and make the sweets. Women who opt to stay home get busy preparing sweets while the men of the house go for the prayer. There is no fixed rule for who should go for the prayer.
It is customary to wear new and beautiful clothing on Eid. Women especially love to shop for something new and attractive to wear on Eid. The marketplaces or “Bazaars” would be full of beautiful bangles, anklets, hairdressing accessories, earrings, necklaces, and many other goodies. Men also shop for clothes and dress up nicely on Eid day.
